Like your wife going to the shopping mall, perhaps more CPU and RAM might go someway to mitigate the issue lol

    Hi all,

This website was hacked and as a result I would like to inform you all about what has been done to fix this site and harden up security in mitigating further breaches including what you need to know:

Q: How do you know this site was hacked?

A: Gamerecon was on the Norton safe web list of websites infected with malware. Now it’s been removed by request and given the green light from Norton.

Q: How do you know this site is not still affected?

A: You can check any website for it’s integrity and variability (among many other functions). using remote scanners like Sucuri and Norton Safe Web to name a few, gamerecon has been checked by these and other scanners returning a “didn’t detect any malware” as of the time of this post. If your still concerned? Check for yourself here – https://sitecheck.sucuri.net/

Q: Could my PC be affected when I visited gamerecon.net?

A: The malware affecting this site was “non specific” meaning it’s unlikely to effect a visiting computer, however, it is! possible.  Do a virus scan, that’s all you need to do because windows defender recognizes the malware in question.

Q: What about my PayPal details?

A: No payment details or transfers are handled by this website, donations are handled by PayPal so your details have and will always be safe.

Q: Is there anything I can do to help?

A: YES!! Attackers scan for websites that have no content changes in the hope of finding abandon sites, starting a new thread in our forum helps lower our vulnerably by creating new content.

Q: What’s been done to harden up security?

A: Without giving too much away…

    • I have disabled “get your own gamerecon site” and will only allow this functionality manually by request.
    • Implemented much stronger anti spam methods on all forms.
    • Created stronger redirection protocols with tighter security headers forcing HTTP to HTTPS including sub directories.
    • A local firewall has been installed and enabled with all traffic checked and banned for bad behavior.
    • All requests to gamerecon.net have been routed through CloudFlare to weed out trouble makers and to provide us with a stronger SSL certificate.
    • I was trying to avoid this but from now on donations will only now be accepted from logged in users, hopefully this will not discourage people from donating in the future.
    • I have spent hours deleting files and bad code from core files. Hours upon hours over the last two months to make sure I’ve done all I can do.

Now you can rest assured, you can enjoy coming to gamerecon without any risk and post about all the great times your having on the servers in our forum.

    Hi nam,

Thanks for letting me know and I’m not sure how I managed to delete some, or perhaps even all of the donation history but I have an administrative list of past donations, just saying, if anyone needs a summary I should be able to provide one.

The donation plugin has been updated with a few much needed fixes so that is good, the spam protection seems to be working, please let me know it you find any bugs or other problems.

I have started a ticket requesting the return of out old IP so we will see how that goes and I’ll get back here in the next 24 hours to let you all know what the verdict is.

perhap they are still upgrading/migrating, not sure but it’s midnight here, going to bed  ; )

    Good to hear from ya!

    Hi John,
I am sure you already checked this out yourself, but it looks like the server is not exepting incoming traffic.
All entries in the hosts file can be traced to 192.210.241.54, but the server error is “ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED”, so its up with the same IP, but maybe they closed all ports so 6080 cant be reached….

Well that was a lotta work

Database was not starting, other issues, needed to get a friend to help (linux expert) and to be fair I don’t think I would have sorted it out without him

    Enjoy!

PS: If you need help accessing servers Nam, let’s know, I may be a little slow to respond as I have a shitlode of work on but I will respond
